Preliminary Economic Study of Biodiesel Production from Pequi in Brazil

چکیده
The demand for renewable energy use is continuously rising, since fossil fuels have been depleted and their extensive use has caused environmental issues, such as global warming [1]. Among renewable energy options, Biofuel have attracted attention in part because they are liquid fuels that can be easily used in motor vehicles, and in some cases with little or no modification of existing gasoline or diesel fuel engines [2,3]. Over the last decade, global Biofuel production increased rapidly. In 2008, about 15 billion liters of biodiesel were produced globally. New projections indicate that the world biodiesel production tends to increase from 31 billion of liters in 2015 to 41.4 billion liters in 2025. The United States is still the largest Biofuel producer, followed by Brazil and the European Union. While corn-based ethanol is dominating domestic production in the United States, Brazil produces ethanol mainly from sugar cane and Biofuel production of the European Union is mainly derived from canola and sunflower crops [4].

Introduction: Mixotrophic microalgae systems have great potential for bioenergy production and wastewater treatment. Anaerobic-treated wastewater supplemented with carbon can improve biomass yield and quality, as it presents low carbon content. Alternative carbon sources in microalgae cultivation, such as glycerol, are essential for minimizing the economic and environmental impacts caused by bi...
متن کاملThe Brazilian Program of Biodiesel and its ‘Pro-Poor’ Strategy: Reality or Dream? A Multi-Dimensional Measurement of Poverty using Fuzzy Sets
After the launch of Brazilian program of biodiesel use and production (PNPB) in 2004, the oil seed production became an economic alternative for family farmers since they might have the chance to improve their income and supply the biodiesel enterprises with raw material. Theoretically speaking this picture is easy to draw, but until recently little scientific research was carried out aiming at...

Crude glycerol (CG) is an abundantly available and cheap by-product from biodiesel production. Value-added applications for CG are highly wanted by industry and several processes such as the use of CG for enhanced oil recovery have been proposed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sulfide production of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) indigenous to oil reservoirs using CG as substrate. Th...

Local knowledge of biodiversity has been applied in support of research focused on utilizing and management of natural resources and promotion of conservation. Among these resources, Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Cambess.) is important as a source of income and food for communities living in the Cerrado biome. In Pontinha, a "quilombola" community, which is located in the central region of State ...
